Spiinaker and jib together

Have others experimented with launching and recovering the A-Spin while leaving the jib up? Also what about sailing with the jib and spin up and if so, in what conditions? I have seen pictures both ways, particularly with other sport boats, and wondered what others are finding is best, from both a launch and retrieval basis, and from boat speed with the jib up or down while the spinnaker is up.

We always hoist and douse spinnakers with the jib unfurled when racing. If nothing else, it helps avoid wraps around the headstay.

We leave the jib up launching but dousing we bring it down then reset the jib as a rule. This may change as the crew gets more comfortable with the boat, since we know it is slow.

With respect to sailing with the jib and asso up at the same time, we found that being double slotted only worked in theory. In our case the jib interfered with the airflow to the big 110 asso which is set when off the wind and made us slower.

Have not tried it with the little asso yet, but it may be more effective with this sail since it is designed to be used with the apparant wind from about 85 to 55 degrees, in otherwords, forward of the beam.

If we get the Code 0 it might also prove interesting to try it with a sail designed to allow us to point even higher than the little asso.

Rocket 22 as a cutter? We'll see.

On my last asym boat, we always douse and set with the jib up.

When sailing we sometimes leave jib up in stronger breezes (20+). Seems to help the gybes. More importantly, if you wipe out, you need the jib out and sheeted hard to balance the boat and get her back on her feet again.
